Robert Colgan
Robert Colgan is a photographic artist from Columbus Ohio. Born in Elyria Ohio, he actually spent his formative years living in Louisiana. This was the beginning of his interests in history, architecture and myth. After returning to Ohio, he earned a BFA degree from the Ohio State University.
Rob has been photographing for over 20 years and has exhibited throughout the Midwest, and most recently Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was an Individual Artist Fellowship recipient from the Ohio Arts Council in 1992.
Whether taken literally or symbolically, it is man and the male image which forms the foundation of this work. Man becomes the symbol of mankind. The nude, then, is a distillation of this symbol to it's most basic condition...the nude as a blank slate. With this icon at the core, the balance of each piece then becomes a description of man's interaction with the world. Suggestions of science, archeology and history allude to a sense of timelessness, while the simplicity of the classical, romanticized images offer to describe a strong personal and emotional state.
